Atlogys has been working directly with the AAAS IT team to Create the architecture and manage the development of AWS cloud based services for the digital offering of Science Magazine, and the Science family of journals.

Features

  • Creating COMMON HEADER across all sites – Leverages the login functionality and the navigation.
  • React JS Modules that allow for drag and drop of INTERSTITIAL FORMS like:
    • Donation
    • Login
    • Contact
    • Subscribe
  • Login flow- Built with AWS services
  • Subscription – Built with AWS services Piano, Nimble
  • account sync (third party API’s)

  • Donation flow (Integrated payment gateway) – Blackbaud using React
  • React JS Modules that allow for E-alert form on all sites
  • Hosted COOKIE CONSENT form on all these sites
  • Integrating Google AD Manager Console at Client Side

Made CONSOLE 

This is the backend for science content team to manage and publish journals and articles and to get various reports and distributions for individual issues

  • Client side built in React
  • Backend work:
    • Designed the pipeline using AWS services where admin can publish individual journal issues
    • Built multiple distributions (basically its a reporting based on certain content which gets zipped)
    • Logs maintenance
    • Role management
  • Made frontend for Search (search.sciencemag.org) in React JS

Technical Challenges Overcome

  • Drupal – Client side
  • Backend: Python with AWS lambda
  • ReactJS – Independent modules that have been injected on page load like interstitial form and donation form etc.
  • JS: Sub family of ES6 used for the login module across different sites
  • Various AWS resources like API Gateway, Dynamo, SQS, SES, Cloud Formation, s3 etc.

Impact

  • We have designed low cost AWS cloud based solutions focused on the area of scholarly publishing.
  • Almost 33,000 universities across the world are currently accessing ScienceMag (http://www.sciencemag.org).
  • It is been currently circulated weekly and has a subscriber base of around 130,000 users.
  • It’s estimated readership is around 570,400 peoplewordwide.

TECHNICAL CHALLENGES OVERCOME

  • Project uses diverse technologies which makes it very complex in terms of management
  • Involvement of third party giantslike piano and salesforce.
