Introduction

onChase is a web-based eCommerce platform for listing and selling Home Furnishing, Appliances and Interior decoration items like Bath Fittings, Plumbing, Tools & hardware, Doors, windows, etc.
It seeks to bring the concept of Home Depot to the online web.

onChase was a product of the Banyan group of hotels, India.

Atlogys was hired to perform turnkey design, architecture, development, deployment and the post-launch maintenance and monitoring of the onChase web platform.
Atlogys designed onChase to be a highly customized Magento based responsive web platform. Various UX and UI strategies and themes were proposed before finalization on the final UI as well.

Atlogys Role

  • Technical Product Definition – Create detailed technical specs, discuss all finite use cases with the promoter, account for onChase specific Taxonomy/content structure/data types, do technical feasibility, plan phases for release.
  • Software Design and Architecture – consider latest IT trends, standards, best practices; select MVC framework and frontend technologies, make DB schema design along with class diagrams, define API’s and JSON response formats, plan for lowest page load time, enhance server response time. , Query optimization.
  • Coding & Code Review – 3 milestone based releases with peer to peer code review of all frontend and backend logic.
  • QA testing – Blackbox testing on PC’s, tablets and phones.
  • End to End Project and Delivery Management – Jira based delivery management, resource allocation and guidance, scope management, demos and daily standups, client meetings
  • Server Configuration, Deployment, and Monitoring – Amazon AWS server setup, configuration, and launch, QA/Staging/Production environments, configure alerts, set thresholds, schedule backups

Technical Challenges Overcome

We used Magento and tweaked the backend to expose REST API’s. These API’s were used by a custom admin backend built on PHP. The two2 technologies – LAMP and Magento were deployed side by side and kept in synchronization to ensure smooth operations.
 
Many plugins were also developed and customized in Magento.

Impact

Launched successfully in Bangalore, India for 3 months before it got acquired by its competitor. It had data entry for 5000 different types of home products and integrations with 300+ suppliers local to the India market. In addition there were tie ups done with DHL and Blue Dart and DTDC shipping services for product dispatch and delivery.
